The e-visa is a form of electronic visa that will suffice for travel to Vietnam for less than 30 days. As the name suggests, this type of visa is applied for directly online and processed by computer. It is therefore faster, simpler and cheaper than the traditional visa.

Although it is of course possible to apply for a visa online on the official Vietnamese website, we advise you not to do so as you will not find any help in case of doubt. It is better to go through a partner website like the one we present on this page.

How much does it cost to apply for a classic Vietnam visa at the embassy?

Of course, you also have the option of applying for a regular visa to Vietnam. This document can be obtained after making arrangements with the Vietnamese consulate or embassy in your country of residence.

Vietnam offers several types of visas, depending on the purpose of your trip and the type of traveller you are. Of course, the price of visas will vary according to these criteria. On average, expect to pay between €80 and €130.

  • The one-month single-entry visa: This is the most frequently requested visa for tourist stays in Vietnam. It is valid for a period of one month and allows a single entry into the country. The price of this visa is currently €60.
  • The one-month multiple-entry visa: If, during your trip to Vietnam, you also wish to visit several neighbouring countries, you will have to opt for the multi-entry visa. This will also be for one month, but will allow you to enter and leave the country several times during your stay. It currently costs €80.
  • The 3-month single-entry visa: For stays longer than 30 days, we advise you to apply for a 3-month single-entry visa. This type of visa also costs 80€, but will allow you to travel on Vietnamese soil without leaving it for a period of 3 consecutive months.
  • The 3-month multiple-entry visa: Like the 1-month multiple-entry visa, the 3-month multiple-entry visa will allow you to exit and enter the country multiple times during your stay. The price of this visa is currently 130€.
  • Express visa: If you wish to obtain an express visa by going to the consulate and getting it within a maximum of 3 days, you will have to add an additional fee of 30€.

What other fees will I have to pay if I overstay my visa?

As we have seen above, the different visas offered by the Vietnamese government, whether it is the classic visa or the e-visa, have a fixed validity date. It is therefore imperative to respect the maximum period of stay in the country and to leave the country before the end of the validity period of your visa. If you wish to apply for an extension of your visa, you must do so before the expiry date.

If you stay in the country longer than your visa allows, the Vietnamese customs authorities will ask you to pay $25 per day of overstay. This can go even further and lead to a detention.

Is it possible to travel to Vietnam without a visa?

British nationals wishing to travel to Vietnam can benefit from a visa waiver if their stay is for one entry only and lasts less than 15 days.

In this case, you would simply need to present your passport upon arrival in Vietnam. Remember that this passport must be valid at the time of your trip, but that its validity must also cover 6 months after the planned return date.

There would be no fee to pay here as the passport will be stamped free of charge and without any application to be made in advance. Citizens of certain countries including UK will be able to benefit from this visa-free policy in Vietnam for a period of at least 3 years, i.e. from 15 March 2022 to 14 March 2025, and may be extended.
